They guy next door to me has a four wheeler for sale and has been using motor oil instead of 2 cycle oil . Its a polaris 350 4x4 it has 995 miles on it he told me they at the shop here in town said this oil would be ok . I dont think so what do you all think? I rode it and it runs ok but smokes alot . If i bought and changed it over to 2cycle if it would be ok.

 

yeah..............buy it and use 2-stroke oil......!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just make sure you get the 2stroke oil for injection unless your going pre-mix

I wouldn't use motor oil in one. I would also drain every last bit out that you can of the motor oil he put in. Some oils are NOT compatible and I have seen it blow motors up(they won't mix on depending on the oils and actually thicken up and don't flow right). I would remove the oil tank, drain and wash it out. Remove the oil line at the pump and wash it out as well. I would then pre-mix a tank of fuel to 40 to 1. 3.2 ounces of oil per gallon of gas. Roughly 12.8 per tank. Then I would reinstall the oil tank, lines, new filter and purge the oil pump. There is also an oil line running from the pump to the carb intake boot. I would drain and wash it as well. With the fuel tank mixed you will NOT blow the motor while the oil runs throught the pump and oil line to the carb adapter. Start the unit and let it idle. Manually turn the oil pump metering valve(the part the throttle cable is meshed with) and let it idle. You can sometimes see the oil pumping as you do this(especially if you install a new line. If you replace it, use an oem oil line just to be safe) It will run rich on you so it may foul a plug. Plugs are way cheaper than overhauls though!

 

I always thought 2-stroke oil (pre-mix or injector) was a special type. I've ALWAYS used 2-stroke oil in all my 2-stroke engines, chain saw, weed wacker, Predator 50. What benefit would there be in using engine oil other than saving a few bucks? There are times to be skimpy, and I don't think this is one of them.
