Okay guys, hopefully you'll be able to hear the noise in this video I just made. The video starts on the left side of the machine where you can hear the normal engine sounds, then it goes to the front and end up on the right side where the clanking/tapping comes from.

I'm starting to think that the noise is normal, as I've heard it on various other 800's on Youtube. It sure would be nice if it was quiet, as the twin has such a nice sound and smoothness to it, that his noise just seems to override it and make it sound cheap. I mean, sitting next to my friend's Can-Am 650 twin with both engines running, I can't even hear his compared to mine.

My 07 800 sounds like that as well, I think mine might be a little less loud on the right side though. I only have 41 hrs on mine, the dealer told me it was normal. I am having trouble with getting mine in gear too, I think my idle is too high. Your idle sounds a little high in the video too, just a thought. Also this is off if the point at hand but put your speedo on where you can watch the rpms. Pull the brake lever and see what happens, my rpms go higher and them level out at around 1200. When I let off of the brake then the rpms go back down, just wonder if your sp will do the same thing.

That noise is competely normal. Both my '05 700 EFI with 250 miles on it, and my new '07 700 EFI with 100 miles on it make that same noise. My dealer says it is a fact of life with the Polaris 700 and 800 EFIs. Just like the infamous "drive line clunking" on the same machines.

Thanks for you input Jodaanja.

Wayne, I pulled my brake lever and watched for a rise in RPM, and it did it. But only on the tach, not actual engine speed. What I mean is my idle is normally 1120. The tach will frequently read hundreds of RPM slower, but the engine speed remains the same judging by ear. When the tach reads low and squeeze the brake lever, it will rise to what it should be. When its already at what it should be, the brake lever has no effect. LOL!

In the right side engine is another case half with a lot of gears in it, the gear for the counterbalancer is spring loaded with another gear attached to it and at an idle this makes some noise from the gear clatter. Ive heard it from a new 08 800 x2 to a 04 sportsman 600 with 7500 miles on it. I really don't think it is anything to worry about.
