Bulbs in tail lights heat up so hot the actual bulbs (two piece bulb) are melting, and melting the tail lights? Voltage readings are normal, any ideas why?

Welcome to the forums Mooselips.

Is this a new quad? If not new, did you or the previous owners add something like a winch or extra lights that would have used existing wires in the hareness?

I'd replace them with stock bulbs and see if it does it then.

Yes, quad is five months old, Dealership is going to take care of it under warranty, but wants to advise Polaris. Found no grounding problems, no voltage problems, and bulbs were Polaris stock. Weird! Never seen anything like it.

i beleave there only a 37 watt bulb so it really shouldnt be that hot unless like scrammy said brake lights sticking on. what about the bulbs not being pushed in far enough being to close to the lenses cover?

Dealership went back to Polaris Industries, apparently there has been quite a few reports of the same problem. Polaris is looking into it and may do recall. Bulb burns hot and not enough clearance in taillight.

Polaris is replacing free of charge all new parts.

Had 07 500 EFI that melted tailight bulb's. Warranty took care of. Dealer was clueless as to why that happened. No mod's other than winch. I took care of that and got an 07 800 Stealth....LOL. 500 was great machine, but once you drive the 8 the 500 is nuthin but late. Is that a stupid line or what, but that,s all I had at the time. Anyway ride safe. Hoov
