wher can i find the vin number 1997 polaris 250 trailboss it has been painted is it stamped on the frame somwhere

Yup. it should be stamped on top frame rail by airboxx i think. I'm not sure but should be same # on motor.

maybe up under the fenders as well on the frame.

It should be on the frame rail. I believe it will be on the angled part that runs from the bottom frame to the top frame right behind the front right tire. It should be a 7 digit number on a 97. There should also be the model number and year there on a sticker. If you find a number like W97AA25C thats your year and model number. The vin on that one will be something like 2306624. The motor vin will not be the same.

I have found the vin but not the model how can i tell what year it is from the vin

might need new gaskets or doughnut seals.
I cant disagree with harley cause dont know about yours but my vins the same on frame and block. and date on vin runs month and year and then plant where it was made not sure what order it is if plant is first then date or date first. look for year digits that u think are close i guess. cause u know it wasnt made in 29 or something
