Default 02 700 twin trouble shifting.

Hi all, 2002 700 twin with a Team Performance Solutions TAS 99 Cutch. No drag when taking off... this thing is a rocket! Having some trouble shifting from low to high and it is really difficult to find neutral! Anyone else have this problem? Any idea's how to adjust? Have you tried adjusting the to rods? Mine was impossible to get into reverse but a turn and a half of the adjuster fixed it right up.

The shifting on a 2001 sp 500 and 2002 sp 700 are different. The 500 has two rods on the older sportsmans and only one rod on the 700. Mine got water inside the cover where the rod linkage arm goes into the trans. I took mine apart, cleaned it up and lubed it and it shifts better than new. Also if the idle is up two high, or the clutches are out of adjustment it will shift hard.

First thing thing I do is disconnect the rods at the shifter. Push and pull the rods with your hands and watch the linkages at the tranny at work while finding low, high and reverse. Reconnect the rods to shifter and use the shifter through the gears ,if you notice the tranny leaver are not coming forward or back wards enough like when shifting in free hand than adjust linkage travel to compensate.

Better yet you only have one rod to fool around with.

Yea, messing with the rod adjustment on a 2002 only leally re-positions the shifter handle.

There is a tach on the 2002 sportsman 700, but you cant access it unless the machine is in neutral and the parking brake is set, then hold the yellow overide button and turn the key on to get to the diagnostic screen. There is also a volt gage, etc. I can't remember what idle is suppose to be.
