did you check the tranny switch to see if its messing up? you mean its acting like its in reverse and no override pushed in?

I think I remember something about the older bikes having range sensor switch problems. Make sure that the light for reverse in not lit up when trying to drive in forward

Could be a bad CDI. Replacing one on mine, and I'll find out if that cured the problem. Sometimes, you had to have the reverse overide switch pushed in for it to go in forward without the backfire.

Temporary fix is to unhook the override wiring plug on the handle bars. You'll see two sets plugged into the on/off - headlight module. It's the one closest to you as you sit on the quad. Can't remember the colors, and being at work, can't look right now to tell you.

Leave it plugged in when you start it, then unplug it. If your's was doing the same thing mine is, it will stop it. Won't fix it, but at least you can ride.
