Fuel Gauge...Anybody got one?

True! Crude but effective.
Still, on a premium toy, it is hard to understand why one has not been designed in and provided. I would blame it on the weird tank design but not all of the Polaris have that design.
The float type guage discussed above works well when the tank can accomodate it. Experience with them on my snowmobiles has shown that they rattle somewhat.

Yeah you would think that they could come up with one, I understand why they do not have one for the current SP the gas tank is oddly shaped. but that could be reengineered for sure. good I am not the only one who thinks a tach is not a odd request. My sled has one and that is an auto. I like a tachometer. though i do a mileage check on mine fill her up and reset the tripomter gives me a decent idea of how far I can go. I never go more than 80 miles or so before I put in some gas. though i have gone 106 miles before it hit reserve.

Are you really getting 100 miles on a tank of gas? I top mine off (even shake it a little to get as much in as I can) every time and I have not gotten even close. I reset the trip odometer after each fillup. I was riding last night, the trip odometer said 42.7 miles and I ran out of gas. I can't believe there would be that much of a difference between the '00 and '01 for range on a tank of gas. They have the same size tank, right?
My '01 Sportsman only has a little over 100 miles on it... can I expect to get more miles out of a tank when it is broken in?

Most 500 utilities get at least 20 miles per gallon no matter what kind they are.Without all the snow we have now , I can count on 100 miles safely when just trail riding.I knew the H.O would burn more gas (you get nothing for free)but that sounds like a fuel leak.

I doubt it is a fuel leak... my wife's is about the same. I am planning on keeping track for the first few hundred miles to make sure I can say for certain how far I can go on a tank. I am interested to know if other HO owners have experienced significant decreases in range on a tank of gas over the Sportsman???

2YellowSportsman, I have owned a 96,98,99 and I know own a Yellow 2000 SP500 non HO, I have easily gotten 100 miles out of a tank on each machine the 96 was the only one without EBS and I have found hardly any difference in MPG in any of them. Thats hard to Imagine a 20% increase in power would cost you 50% in MPG ?? Im not sure it is worth the trade-off. I have driven several HO's and It seems to me that you dont even feel any extra power until the Mid or High Range, It seems they dont have the same low end that the non-HO's have..But that is just my perception. I hardly ever have reason to get my SP500 over 40mph so that extra power is not a big deal to me.
My 2000 gives up nothing to my cousins Rubicon so I guess I can even keep bragging rights without paying the extra money to get the HO.
