Hey I've got a 2003 predator that has been having some starting issues lately. The starter spins but doesn't engage the flywheel for some reason. I took the stator side cover off and noticed that the big gear that surrounds the flywheel just spins freely around and does not engage. I'm assuming since I don't really know, that this gear would somehow engage the flywheel during starter operation, then be disengaged and allowed to spin freely while the quad is running. Anyone had any experience with this? Before complete failure, starter operation was very spiratic. The motor would turn over then all of a sudden it would kind of change patterns and sound different while trying to start. Kind of hard to explain but thanks in advance for your help.

I have the exact same problem, i dont know what it is, i thought maybe the starter bought a new one, not it but like you said i took the side casse off and the big gear spins free and once in a while will catch, but the spins free again, did you figure anything out its been a while since you posted, thanks
