Default What happens when???

They say in the Polaris manual ""NOT"" to put the quad in AWD when the rear tires are spinning!!!

My question is what will happen is there a loud clunk or grinding noise?

I know not to do this , but what will really happen? does the AWD engage right away?............Because if your traveling over 30-35 miles /hour and put it in AWD it will not cut in until you drop below 3100 RPM!!!!!......

It states in the manual Switching to AWD while the rear wheels are spinning may cause SEVERE drive shaft and gearcase damage. Always switch to AWD while the rear wheels have traction or at rest!!!....

I don't want to try it to see what happens!!!!........Have you??
...........LOL.....LOL......Thanks...........Caper ..........

Well the kids are out in the snow and I know they have it in 2-wheel drive playing............I tell them not to switch until fully stopped(AWD)................But I thought about them putting it in AWD while the rear wheels are turning!!........That's where the question came from..........I am not really "NUTS"........Your just reading it that WAY!!!.......LOL....LOL.......Caper.......

Sounds like a good question to me...... I was honestly thinking the same thing when I buried my scrammy to the floorboards at Sand Hollow last weekend. If I can engage it while driving down the road, why can't I engage it when I figure out I'm about to bury my 577 lb beast????

If it engages when the back wheels are spinning and the fronts are stopped it can tear the front diff cage on the newer bikes and as far as I know the cage is still made of plastic. The older models that locked in the hub not the diff seemed to take the abuse a lot better as the cage was steel. My old Scrammy had some issues with the RF hub not engaging all the time and when I was almost stuck and hard on the throttle it would engage and almost tear the bars out of my hands, but it never broke. I'm having some issues with my SP now and I make sure I'm REALLY easy on the throttle when it doesn't engage right away.

I was freezing rain when I was diving home an hour ago, and I'm praying it doesn't snow for a while untill I get my front diff working again. But my luck I'll be shoveling instead of plowing LOL
