Default overheating

I have a 01 sportsman 500ho that overheated during our last snowstorm i plowed for 4-5 hours and anti-freeze spewed out of the resevoir. My hi-temp light never came on so i figured it was hot and the cap is old so it purged through. Anyways i fired it up yesterday and within 10 minutes it started spewing anti-freeze again?, with no Hi-Temp light on again? I'm getting a new cap today, but is there anything else it could be? After i shut it down i left the ignition on and the fan only ran maybe 5 -10 seconds? I figured that if the pump failed i should still get the hi-temp light, as its in the head? Anybody else have any ideas?

Your hi temp indicator could be screwed. Check to make sure your rad isn't plugged or restricted by snow.

On my 1995, the coolant kept coming out the resevoir and I realized the bike's coolant wasn't hot. I was getting air bubbles because I had a compression leak. In my case it was the head gasket. I went and rebuilt the whole top end. Don't know if that helps you, but that is my story.
