Greg, what was the name of the cv shop that can build me longer cv shafts? I cancelled the honda chromoly fame and decided to make the HO work, after thinking I thought about making chromoly a-arms for the front and the back. I thought that I'd start with just an inch longer than stock, how does that sound to you? If you have any info on this or any ideas that would be appreciated. Thanks Greg!

I'm not gregism but i can tell you about extending your shafts. I extended mine on my xplorer one inch at first. It cost me about 160 bucks for both shafts. They were too long. The a-arms weren't long enough and the angle of the shock was too much. I then had a half inch taken out. It's the perfect size. The shafts won't pop out at all no matter how far your wheel drops. So I would only go 1/2 inch.

Yellowfellow,

I am sure any Machine shop can do this for you. I am not to sure about the CV shops. I do not think it will be worth it to just lenghten the a-arms one inch. This will not allow for much of an increase in ground clearance. I would consider 2-2.5". Also, you may have to redesign the plave where the strut bolts to the fram. This may need to come out about 2"s also to keep the angle correct. This may require an additional support, but this should be achievable if you find a good welder. Lenghtening the axel should be the easy part, but I would wait until the frame, and a-arm mods done, then bolt the hub up with the axel intact. Then measure fromt the inside yolk to the front gear box to see how much you need to add to the axel. The rear A-arms will have to be done the same way. This is going to be expensive, but you may end up with a bike with 18" ground clearance from front to back. I am not sure exactly how much GC this will add. Of course, you should be able to run about a three inch lift with the extended axels, and the extended a-arms would probably provide for an extra 1-1.5"s. I had about 16" front to back on my 98SP500 with 27X12-12 Vamps front and back with 2" lift, so I do not think that 18" is out of the question.
