250 trailboss just putts along
#1
I just inherited a 1995 trailboss 250 which hasn't been run in over 2 years. I changed transmission fluid, spark plug, gas line filters, cleaned drained tanks, new battery, fixed tires, bought haynes manual, greased and oiled and cleaned. Looks alot better. It runs in idle just fine. When you put in F gear will barely move. While holding override button in F will move about 5-10 mph and will just bog down at these speeds. Reverse seems to be OK goes as fast as I want backwards. Belt measurements according to book are in spec limits. Transmission fluid level OK. Please help.

yeah look at the clutch spring mine has been through 2 of those and it sounds about like your problem and the reason why itll go in reverse is its a differnt position that spring is in so id take the belt cover off and pull out the spring and take a look maybe take it to a dealer and see what they say if its shot.

The engine does sound normal. Is it the spring on the drive clutch or the driven clutch. That is what the manual calls them. Looking at them from left to right is the drive clutch and the driven clutch.

Sounds like the reverse overide to me.Find the box and unplug the black wire.If that doesnt fix it pull the secondary clutch and check the buttons

Hi,I had this problem on a 01 Trail Blazer which was a 2 stroke and it also had been setting, you may want to pull the carb bowl and clean the jets as well as the needle and seat, the needle has a rubber tip on most polaris atv's that will dry and go bad allowing excess fuel causing flooding or bogging, have you checked the condition of your plug as well as your compression?
