Where is the Jet on a Hawkeye...
#1
Ok so check it out. My wifes and my hawkeye will bog out when going up a hill at 75% throttle... It's a bit embarrasing to be honest.
I think it has to do with jetting. I could be wrong.
Things to know...
1. I have not brought my hawkeye into the dealership to get the holes drilled into the airbox. To be honest, I'm afraid to, I keep reading horror stories on this website about what happens to their quads after coming back home from dealersihps. Does anyone know what I'm supposed to do if I were to perform this airbox modification myself? Also where could I buy the plugs from?
2. I am VERY uneducated when it comes to jetting carbs. A while back I pulled the top off my quad to drill out the carb slide. I saw a round brass thing which is what I thought was my main jet, but I read in my manual that this is not it, and the main jet is accessible from the bottom of the carb. My first question is what was this jet looking thing I saw from the top of my carb? It had "140" stamped on it. If my machine bogs down at 75% throttle, what jet to I replace the bottom one or the top one?
3. My elevation is less than 1,000 feet and the tempatures are about 40-60 degrees when I ride.
Any suggestions, I want this thing to perform like it's supposed to and I'm getting frustrated at best.
Thanks!

pete there has been tons of post of this very subject if you search for them. did you even call the dealer to ask if there is an date to fix the carbs as it was a big problem for the 06' hawkeye. maybe if it is they will do it for nothing under warranty. just a suggestion. the 140 is the right jet which you saw from the top and the piolet in the bowl is 45 and they are both the same for an 08' model as well so not sure what they changed to make it better.

doing a little reseach it looks like the only differnce i can see between the 06 and 07' modles is the air box cover has a differnt part number and the jets and air jets are the same number. hope it helps.

alanhawaii (user on these forums) has a Hawkeye, and from what I have read he went with a dynojet kit and a tpi valve for the airbox. I think that's what I'm going to do because I'm totally convinced Polaris screwed up on the jetting on these bikes. Nevermind this thread. =) Sorry.

I'm at 1759 ft, mine is dealer stock and pulles great to 6,000 ft then shuts down a little. Don't give up or do anything drastic, its a great bike. There is an upgrade on carb.
Fix the problem you've got before you get any aftermarket stuff.

Well dont get frustrated, its a easy fix for you or the dealer, there are some recalls on this bike, one of them is the jetting bu they wont rejet it for you, they will do the airbox mod and thats okay, or you can do the airbox mod yourself and forget the dealer like i did, i did however get the recalls for the steering stem and front spindles done, heres what you do with the airbox mod, start by drilling 2-- 1/2 inch holes then test ride if it runs better then drill 2 more holes, if it even runs better then drill 2 more holes, if it runs worse then plug 2 holes leaving a total of 4 holes, you can get the plugs at Ace hardware that will pop in and seal the hole, this should make it run 50 percent better, but you might want to check and clean that spark plug first as a new hawkeye really puts out a lot of carbon buildup on the plug. if you rejett it not knowing what to do then its a 6-8 hour job, if i were you just drill the holes it cant hurt it unless you like hitting deep water, just want to always check you air filter more often.

man i wouldnt want to drill any holes in my air box as i ride in deep water myself. do you guys know if the 07' air box cover is differnt as it shows a differnt pn#. since the jetting appears to be the same i wonder if thats their fix?
