One of my hunting buddys has a Cat , an Auto, and you don't have to stop to shift from high to low range. He seems to like it. I've ridden it a few times, His is air cooled I'll stay with a liquid cooled machine.
They all have there pro's and cons.
I'll test ride every thing on the planet before I spend another 7 G's.

This Polaris that I own now is the 3rd Polaris I've had since 1999. I love the power and the way you can work them. I've never broke any axles or anything after jerking on many logs and other atvs. Watched many Yamaha's break axles in the same places the popo had no problems. My next atv I hope to be a Polaris X2 so that I'll have the room for 2 legally on the trails and to load all those deer up in when hunting.

I rode and ride with a AC 500 and I never knew it could (or any other ATV) could switch ranges on the fly. When I did ride the Cat I had no need to go into low so I would not know if it could or not.

But yes that would be a great feature to have.

Well, I just checked with him, he has a 400 Arctic Cat automatic, a 2004 or 2005,
He says you can shift from low to high on the fly.

I can't see being able to do that due to you're physically changing the gearing. I could see if you got down near 1-3mph like in a truck and going from low to high.

Dosn't the AC have a wet clutch in between the crank shaft and the primary clutch like the Yamaha's. Would this allow the shifting on the fly when you let up on the gas. Hondamatics and those manuals without hand/manual clutches have a centrifugal/wet clutch that is similar, correct?

I have an 03 Sportsman 400 4x4 and I love it.I will probably hand it down to my Grandson in a couple of years and buy me a new one. This is my first ATV and I know other makes are good too but I plan on sticking with Polaris, probably a 500 H.O. next time
