Default Air box oil

I asked earlier about oil in my air box, and the suggestion was to check the oil level. The oil level was fine but i found both plastic valve covers loose, one was completely off. The one that was off will not tighten down. I am assuming that this was pressurizing the case, am i right? Compression check read 70 psi!
Did the plastic valve covers shrink because of the heat?
