2005 700 EFI ECU Question
#1
Quick question, I've recently had a problem with starting my 700 EFI plenty of spark but would not start. Just heard a clicking sound not hearing the fuel pump pressure up. I took it in to my dealer after looking it over I was told the ECU unit was bad and has to be replaced. I was told about 400 for the ecu and 100 for labor. I found rhe ECU on-online for 275. I was waundering if it would be worth my wild to just get it back buy the part and do it myself. It looks only to be to screws to remove the old one undo cable and hook up the new one and screw it back down. anybody have any experience replacing it or should I just sell a kidney to get the dealer to do it.
only has about 29 hours on it.

SORRY THE PART FOR AN 05 700 EFI IS 4011560 RETAIL 352.79 PLUS TAX. SOUNDS LIKE THEY GAVE YOU A FAIR PRICE. YOU MAY WANT TO THINK TWICE ABOUT BUYING ELECTRICAL PARTS ON LINE MOST ARE NON RETURNABLE.

OIown12 thanks for the post about the recall sure enough mine falls in the recall, I've got another question. I've taken my atv in for service every year since I've had it. and never have I been told about any recalls involving ECU. and after several calls to the dealer today I was never told about any recalls. I only have 29 total hours on it. When I asked today what may have caused it I was told sometimes they just go bad. I'm starting to get a bad taste. I will be making a call to find out what's up. Do I have a fighting chance of having it fixed under the recall?

IF YOUR VIN FALLS WITHIN THE RECALL RANGE THE DEALER SHOULD DO THE REPAIRS AT NO COST TO YOU. IF NOT YOU MAY ASK THEM TO CONTACT POLARIS FOR A GOODWILL REPLACEMENT.

Unfortunately, many dealers tend to forget about you after the sale. There are a huge amount of dealers out there that will not even work on your bike if you didn't buy it from them. Any reputable dealer that intends to STAY IN BUSINESS will be more than happy to have your repairs. My theory is that a good repair shop is second only to a good lawyer.
The thing with recalls is that if you didn't by your quad new, the manufacturer has no way to notify you. If you did buy it new, you should have gotten a letter from Polaris about the recall. In your particular situation, you are dealing with a fairly old recall (3 years now) and it's quite possible that it has already fallen off the dealer's radar. Bottom line is, you need to tell them about the recall and ask them to repair it. If they won't, find another shop that will and give them the rest of your business.
Good luck!

Well no luck with recall, I was told recall was only for non EFI 700's. My serial number was in but the model number was not. I called Polaris to discuss the matter. I was told that they were sorry but I needed to contact my dealer and they would talk. So I called my dealer and was told he would call. He told me not to get my hopes up. So I'm pretty much dead. Thanks Polaris
