2008 sp800

I just got my sp800 and the manual says to vari the throttle for the first 10 hrs or first 2 full tanks of gas then it also says not to run the machine to hot for the first 3 hrs due to the clutch and belt breaking in. I would like to know how many of you have followed this procedure or if you just broke it in like your going to ride it. Also
I notice when I shift into high or in reverse as soon as I hit the throttle I hear like a clank sound is this normal? and one other thing people say that this machine is very fast I dont know if its because its new but to me it kinda feels like a pooch.
Thanks for any advice on this:::::::::::

first welcome to the 800 club. 2nd on both of my 800's i just varied the throttle and didnt hold it wide open for very long. first 100 miles i rode this way. 3rd. the famous clank your hereing is the black lash in the drive train, and before you go to the dealer ill tell you they all do it and yes its normal. this bike is going to be hard of gas while your breaking it in so t=get use to it. dont plan on much more then 50 miles to the tank if you dry it normal. ride and enjoy.

Hey stendori when I got it home yesterday I rode it around the yard and up and down the drive I probably got it up to 40 miles an hr at times and went through some deep snow is that bad for it right away? Also when do you really start to notice the power of the 800?

I broke mine in by the manual. Also, at half throttle you should be feeling really good acceleration. And the clunking going from forward to revers and visa versa is normal. Going through the occasional deep snow isn't bad for it, in fact it probably did it good. And 40 mph while breaking it in isn't bad for it either.
Just let it warm up a few minutes before you ride it.

theres no worries on that at all. dont know what your comparing the power too but if rode say like a 500 sp. you notice it right way. like he said this is a big heavy bike and you can not compare it to sport bikes. it will be fuly broke in to me at 3 to 5oo miles.

I was not comparing it to the pred, I just thought that it should have more ooomph! out of the box. I rode my buddys outlander800 can-am and that thing literally threw me back gave me that numb feeling like your on a roller coaster those outlanders are sickly fast.

I'm also guessing that you didn't hold back while riding his whereas you're trying to take it easy on yours.
That and like Stendori said, larger displacement, lighter weight, and add to that a V-twin configuration, higher revving, dual throttle bodies, Double OverHead Cam, etc.
