Default Sportsman 500 H.O. Belt shredded, why?

I'm sure I smoked the belt because of the conditions and I was in high range. Still wonder why the third belt, the others must have been getting worn, they were just replaced before I blew them. My bike did run after the puff of smoke as well, then ripped apart. A friend of mine I was riding with suggested it was because I was in high range, I didn't want to agree with him, but I guess i am going to have to listen to him tell me how he was right everytime I go riding with him. I have never replaced the belt, I would think it is something I could do myself, or at least I should learn how.</end quote></div>

At least you admit what you did wrong!
Ever hear of HeelClicker clutch kits? This will really help your atv clutches grip the belt tighter and help the belt last longer. There's no reason your belt shouldn't last thousands of miles! Use low when needed and don't smoke the belt!

I have a 500 and the HC grips my belt a lot tighter! before the kit my atv would just slowly accellerate, now with the HC weights set and rpm right my atv spins like mad under wot and picked up a couple mph. Just about everyone with a HC likes them! Your problem may be 27" tires on a 400 and was expecting a miracle. The HC isn't as much a performane kit as it is a special weights designed to grip the belt tighter, if your belt was slipping the HC will provide performance.
Differant helix and springs are required to improve performance and can be used with the HC weights! If you read the post about not using low range as much is because the HC grips the belt tighter and can be run slower.

i wouldnt say everyone who has them likes them since i had one and sold. h/c requires to much tuning imo. i agree that dalton set up is better. whats even better then that is try using low range when in the bad stuff like the manual says. there again imo.

I got it, low range. When I got the bike back the last time for fixing the creeping and the linkage. The only lights that come on are N and R. No light comes on for drive. Any thoughts? I move it into what I think would be low, but it does not indicate. I just assumed it was the light and it was in low.

Even without lights the shift pattern is printed on the shift handle.

like tlc said and not to mention theres a huge feeling differnce between the low and high. the rpms will be alot higher and will max out around 20 mph.

I realize that, just wondered if the lights had any effect on anything and why they worked before the belt was changed and not afterwards. I thought when I changed the belt this time if there was an electronic hook-up not hooked up i would look into it. Thank God the R light comes on or I wouldn't know if I was in reverse until I hit a tree....

If you used the HC on your 08 800 you wouldn't feel much improvment but the belt would grip tighter. The newer Polaris with Team clutches are a lot better than the older ones. If you set up to the recomended settings you don't need to tinker, but most guys like to tinker and try to get more!
HC only claims to get the power to the ground and keep top end speed which it does very well, if you want to change the shift out get a different helix.
