Default Mudlite vs 589's

Hello everyone
I'm going to 27s or 28's on my old Sportsman. Has anyone tested, Mudlite XL against the 589's or personally use both? I was sold on the 589's until I looked at the weight difference. If there mud peformance is close, Mudlite's are lighter and a little less money! I've only run these Mudlite's and the stock Goodyears. Hopefully these new wheels and tires will end up on an 800, still trying to convince my wife she can handle the 500.
Thanks

In my opinion the mud lights are the way to go, they are as good traction wise and are alot lighter, those heavy tires tend to break axels and wear out front end parts.

I would suggest the Mudlites. They turned my 2 wheel drive Kodiak into a beast. Where I use to get stuck is no longer a problem. They also make a good trail tire. Handle quite well on hard pack.

Hey JKW, i have a new set mudlite 26x10x12 in the front and 26x12x12 in the back and was riding with my buddy who has a set of 589's 27x9x12 in the front and 27x11x12 in the rear he was going through stuff i was getting stuck in and seemed to be able to get out of stuff when he got stuck without getting pulled, and i was having to get pulled, now this was in snow i don't know about mud. i can tell you the lugs are way more aggresive and much deeper on the 589's, so i ordered a set of 28" 589's for the wheeler yesterday, i guess i will e able to tell you better next week.

Do you have any lift? I just was doing some measuring, don't know if 28's will make it with out some chopin, maybe more lift. I think there's someone here running 28's on an older 500 like mine. have't look some more.
Thanks for the info.

i have been told they will fit but i will be ordering some lift just in case, a couple more inches can't hurt, until i have to replace stuff i guess. i will take pics and post them next week when i get them on. i will be trying to put them on withot lift because my lift won't be here when the new tires get here.

i dont think the 28" will fit w/out a lift as they will bottom out real easy. i run 27" xtr's and i can make them rub. the 589 is a better tire in the mud for sure, but its heavier and isnt as good tire for alround. ive run mud lites on a trail blazer and they do pretty good(it was the a.t and not the xl) but i feel these xtr's do a better job over all and ride smoother because there radials.. imo.

I have rode both sets of tires I like the 589's for just mud but the mudlites shine for all around performance. I have 26" 589's on my sportsman 500 right now and will be ordering mudlites in may. I can really tell the difference in the wieght of the quad when trying to pop up over obsticales.

Default Mudlite vs 589's

I have been running mudlites on all my 4wd's including my rhino. They are by far an awesome tire. When I recently purchased the 27's for my wifes bike I thought long and hard about the 589s. I know they are a deeper lug and seem like they would be a better tire, but when I saw how much more $$$ they were I decided the mudlites were just fine! Plus the mudlites are much lighter. I know my local dealer sells a lot of atv's and aftermarket parts and they sell far more mudlites than 589's.

I'm getting turned back toward the Mudlite. Lighter wieght less money. Plan on running SS 106's, hoping for less weight. I just sold my 26's so I'm committed now! The XL's advertize a 1 1/8" tread, are the 589 lugs larger? I didn't find a tread depth on the ITP site for 589's
Great bunch of folks here, Thanks
