Polaris 2w-50 Oil
My point exactly.........it seems polaris specs an oil that is not wasy to find, 0W40 was the first recommendation and is in my manuals for both quads. Mobil 1 makes a 0W40 and that's about the only euro spec I could find locally. Now Polaris says 2W50........hmmmmmmmmm again not easy to find other than a polaris dealer. Shell Rotella 5W40 synt is found pretty much in every Walmart and truck stop across america.......it is a great oil and in fact will be (If not already) JASO MA (Check out Rotella Forum) though it will not say that on the container. I use it in both wheelers and in the trans. No issues and I never expected any. When was the last oil related failure you ever heard of? Do an internet search on cage oil vs motorcycle specific............you'll find a test that regular castrol 10W40 outperformed in every way golden spectro...........and mobil 1 outperformed them all. I'm guessing that Polaris oil is probably sourced from the lowest bidder. It's up to you what you put in your machine......just make an informed decision, not one based on just mine or someone else's opinion....Google is your friend!

you want to becareful when comparing some atv oil to some motocycle oil as its not even close some times becasue of the additives they put in for the wet clutch system on a bike. im guessing that polaris changed the oil do to the high heat range that they run at so it doesnt break down as fast. in 08 it seems like they changed from 0-40 to 2-50 in the same engines. i my self will stick to the closest i can come to factory oil in the number department. i would however recommend only buying fully synethic oil for the polaris for their tight tolence engines(i was told) so at least you wont have premature wear. imo.

Missing my point, I only used the bike vs cage oil as an example that bike and in this case ATV specific oil vs leading cage oil proves that the off the shelf car oil is better in most cases. The fact that a Polaris has no fiber plates to deal with means energy saving oil with more moly in it actually can be used without concern.
