Default Synthetic Rope

I snapped my cable on my warn 2500 winch and decided to upgrade to a 75 foot synthetic rope. I noticed it is recommended to use a hawse fairlead as the rope can snag on the roller, but it doesn't seem to me that it would be a problem. Does anyone out there have any suggestions or have they had any experience with this? I hate to replace the roller fairlead if I don't have to, but don't want to destroy $80 worth of rope either!

I believe that if the rollers are completly smooth it should be fine. After using steel cable on rollers they will become rough which will abrade the synthetic rope.

Thanks! I did replace the original roller fairlead for that reason. Just couldn't see anything that would affect the rope, not to say a hawse wouldn't be better, but not absolutely necessary. Thanks for the reply!

My question is how did you fit 75' on your winch?....Mine is pretty full with 50'... Are you running 3/16"....I've run both fairleads and as long as you keep the rollers bur free you should be ok.....Also be careful when pulling at angles where the rope might get abraded in the corners of the rollers...

Another thing to keep in mind is when you're using a ****** block...Some blocks have split pulleys where the pulley is seamed in the middle.....Those aren't recommended for synthetic because it could get damaged by the center seam under certain conditions....Just another thought...

Thanks! I'll definitely keep an eye on the angles. I may have to change the fairlead if that becomes an issue. I am running 3/16" rope. It is much smaller than the cable, so I was able to get more on it. I tried 100' at first, since that's the length of rope I got. It was definitely too long, so I took off 25'. It fits just right. I'm sure I will be glad I have the extra 25 feet on there some day!

Thanks for the info. I did notice the snatchblocks say not to be used with synthetic rope. Would you suggest an aluminum pulley from maybe a climbing gear shop if it was rated atleast 6000 lb? If not, what do they use for a ****** block?

I found some excellent 8000# split blocks made for synthetic rope on ebay. The ebay store is Gorilla Outdoor Sports they are the people who sell the Gorilla Winches also.

Search for "GORILLA 8000lb ****** Block 8000 lb ATV Winch 8k VD" on ebay or go to
