New 07 SP500 X2 question
#1
I just picked up an 07 500X2 for my wife.
It had .5 hrs and less than 1 mile on it. So it is Brand new.
I commented to the Service Tech that it sounded like the Starter was growling.
He noticed it too that it seemed to be hanging a bit. Both he and the Dealership owner said ride it a bit and break it in and we will see if it gets better.
Also the dealer said it could be a weak battery since this is an 07 model. That is a possibility as I hear the fan speed up a bit when she increases the RPM from idle. I don't here that on my 800.
I have to take it back in on Monday or Tuesday to get her Hand warmers put on.
Here is what I am hearing, when you hit the key it seems to sound like it is turning a little slow and when it starts and you release the key it clicks a bit like the starter is stuck trying to disengage. It doesn't do this every time but more often than not.
Also I have noticed when you shut it off, you hear a bit of a clicking noise that reminds me of a Ford Starter Relay when the battery is too low to engage it completely.
Any thoughts?

I definetly would let the DEALER fix this while its in the shop. Could be the weak battery(dealer replace),could be the starter/starter drive (dealer replace). Also check all the connections from the battery to solonoid to starter!!!!

We first bought my wife X2 500 2007 deluxe.....we learn a lot about all the noise from this model.....I bought mine 6 months after same QUAD....x2 500 2007 deluxe but silver/black.....ALL the noise I eard from one to the other was exactly the same and after talking about with my dealer.....all was normal.
But if you want just be sure talk with your dealer....about this model...not all the model have the same noise....
After all I LOVE MY X2 ALOT.....

Well I had it back to the dealer today, they checked the Battery and the starter said they both checked out fine. Also said both items are noted in the service log for the machine so if any problems surface down the road we have a record.
Otherwise momma really loves her new toy. Saturday she put 10 miles on it, just on our little 5 acre piece of ground. When I trailered hers last night to take it in today, she hopped on my 800 and rode it around for about 20 minutes. Said well yours is nice, lots of getup and definitely climbs our hills easier, but really to much power for her and she said the steering felt heavy compared to her 500 X2.
Now she wants to go horn hunting so I guess I need to take her down the road a couple of miles and head out into the Elk Range just above the house.
Thanks everybody.
Oh yeah I got a couple of Pics posted of both my 800 and her "free winch in Blue."

Just wondering, the noise you're hearing, it isn't your fuel pump spooling up is it? I turn the key and wait a few seconds for the fuel pump to kick in and then turn the key for ignition. When you turn off the key, the pump is still going for a couple of seconds after the key is turned off. Takes a little getting used to if this is your first Polaris EFI bike.

Thanks X-man.
I have an 07 800efi as well. I noticed the Fuel pump spin up on it and also that it spins down or drains off when you turn off the key on the 500 efi
As in my fuel injected cars I wait until the fuel pump is up to pressure before I hit the starter. The engine will start faster and better when the fuel rails are up to pressure, atomizes the fuel better.
