Default help with 86 trailboss

anyone know where i can get replacement parts for my 86 trailboss? i have tried ebay but havent found much. i mostly need a fuel shutoff valve and a fuel tank. i also would be interested in a new carburetor and a few other things but the valve and tank are the most important. thanks

On your tank any 1986-some 1988s will fit.Any 250 carb will work.

If you use a later model carb, you will need to continue to use the carb cap that came with your original carburetor - throttle cable changes between early and later years will not accommodate cap changes - - the best thing to do, though, is to upgrade your throttle cable to the later models, and use the later model carb cap (later model throttle cables are WAY cheaper, especially since the early model throttle cable is only available thru Polaris)

Those old tanks were pretty much crap after they got some age on them - I would guess that yours is probably leaking in the indentions where the Polaris logo would be on the sides???

yes it had a crack in that exact spot and i fixed it with a riveted-on piece of sheet metal and some fuel-safe silicone. it looks pretty bad and if i can find a whole new tank, i want to get it. my top priorty right now is to get a new fuel shutoff valve because my old one broke. right now i have all the gas drained and no valve on the quad so that is whats keeping me from running it right now

well, now the gas tank is completely useless. a crack spread from one rivet to another all the way around the patch and now there is a huge hole where the patch used to be. any ideas where i can get a new one?

well i found a tank on ebay. it says its off a 87 but it should fit right? it also has the fuel shutoff valve attached. i figure if i can get it for under $100, its worth it considering this is the only one i have found. right now the bid is like $7 + $28 s&h

That one will work. But it will go very high.Be sure to ask if it leaks and the valve is good.
