Default 06 Sportsman 450 No Spark!

A friend of mine has an '06 Sportsman 450 that was running fine through a pasture one day, then decided to just die. It has no spark. A few months earlier he rolled it and it tore the pod off and ripped the wires from the key switch. He rigged those and it was running fine until the no spark issue. I checked the throttle switch to make sure the contacts were open, and took the plastic off to search for a bare wire or one that had come unhooked. Everything looks good, so now it's time to dig deeper. Help me out.

Thanks,
CJ

Did he get the ECM recall up-date done at the dealer......................If it was rolled a few months earlier..........Then my guess would be.........It's not related to the roll-over!!!!
The ECM controls ALOT.....And I am on my third one now with my 2006 450!!....
Does the pod and everything on it still work good???.....Caper..........

I don't believe he has had the recall done. The pod is in great shape. I agree that the roll-over is not related to it, not even sure why I put that on there. Is there that big of a problem with the ECM that you're on your third?

I checked them, still no spark. Is there any way to check the CDI or coil?

CDI output Test connect meter to wires White/Blue to Ground Reading 300 Volts D.C.
Make sure you use a good meter with D.C. voltage selection ...

Pulse Coil....Connect meter wires to White/Red and White..reading 0.15 volts AC
Reading with Peak Reading Adapter...4.5 Volts D.C

Note:A variety of peak reading adaptors are commercially available for the Fluke 77 Digital Multimeter
part # (PV-43568)......You may not have one of these to use for this test!

Caution do not connect or disconnect the battery cable or ammeter with the engine running. Damage WILL occur to electrical components on the Quad!!

Hope that helps.....Caper.............

Quick update on my spark problem. I finally had time to run the tests from caper. The CDI output test was good, but the pickup coil came back with nothing. So I tore off the pull rope cover and sure enough, the bottom wire was broken off the pickup. Some parts inside the starter drive had broken and on their way around they broke that wire off. So just so I can maneuver it around the shop without pushing it I soldered the wire back onto it until my new starter drive and pickup coil come in. BIG THANKS TO CAPER AND STENDORI!

Glad you found the trouble........Why do you think the bottom wire on the pick-up coil broke off?
How many miles do you have on the 450?
.........Caper...................
