thats one of the bad things about those short ramps w/out having them tied on real good as it doesnt take much to kick them out. his poor wife must have been in shock as well watching it feeling helpless.

After watching that video and re-watching frame by frame all the posters who made comments
about using 4x4 or brake Vs throttle, I really don't think that would of changed the outcome. When
the ramps kicked out it did in so manner of the rear wheels never made contact on the rear tailgate
and it fell back (down and at an angle) with one quick action.
I agree I do think the cooler (ironic as may be the culprit to extra rear weight) did buffer the rear half
in the tumble on him, and may have created some space buffer for the legs. But I don't know, one leg looked all
out on the side, and it looks like that took impact as well as him with that quick fall snapped his head
on the ground before EVEN the blow of the toppling of the quad - IMHO.
Scarey Scarey, yes please please, strap (harness/secure-whatever) those ramps and load/unload
in those applications with helmet.
Check out Nojoke's chain thread topic for wearing helmet of loading/unloading for ATV Safety!
Take care, be Safe and God Bless!

Wow that just goes to tell you ..........You don't know when something can happen....
I am suprised to see the Quad roll off the back like that when over 1/2 of the weight was on the truck...(not knowing the weight in the cooler)
If the brakes where held on I think the Quad would have just sat there(hung-up)...What do you guys think?
I know it is easy to say now.........But It looked to me it just free-wheeled off the back truck bed...
......Caper...........

You know one reason why I really don't like boxes and bags on my rear rack is because they make it so much more difficult to bail off the back if one is coming over on you. I feel very "pinned in" when I have a bag, box or gear on the back rack. As a general rule I try to keep any baggage on the front rack and when I do load up the rear rack to be as careful as possible.
That's also the reason I don't use a gunboot that mounts to the rear fender of an ATV. I had one of those mounted to a machine that I flipped/rolled coming out of a creek. I couldn't abandon the machine fast enough when I was rolling. Once the ATV fell I was pinned under water and the boot made getting my leg free very difficult. While it was a pretty difficult to work my leg that was under the machine free, trying to free the one that was hung up on the gunboot was even more difficult. Of course all of the difficulty was multiplied due to the fact that the weight of the machine was pinning me to the bottom of the creek and and trapping me under water. I was seriously afraid I was going to drown. Damned scary I'm here to tell ya.
That is why I very much prefer the gun mounts that attach to the front of the ATV. Kolpin Gear Grips work great.

I saw the video a few days ago and i hope the guy wasn't hurt bad , the first thing he did wrong was not wearing a helmet and the second thing was no strap's or chain's securing the ramp's ; and the third was trusting those single type ramp's !
I hope he wasn't hurt bad , but the way the quad came back on him he was most likely hit in the head by the handle bar's unless he moved his head either to the left or right in time but either way he hit his head on the ground ; i would never trust those single type ramp's with strap's or chain's with s-hook's either !
The TRI - FOLD ramp's with the weak chain's with S-Hook's aren't safe either , i bought a set of the TRI - FOLD Ramp's from Harbor Freight and added heavier chain's and bigger S - Hook's before i even tried to use them ; the cost for the ramp's were $79.99 and the heavy chain's and bigger S -Hook's at Home Depot were little over $10.00 but well worth the cost for saftey's sake !
They worked perfect for loading my old 86' Honda TRX350FM Foreman 4x4 , but after i bought my 2006 Arctic Cat 400 FIS Auto that weighed more than the Foreman and 4" wider wheelbase than the Foreman the wheel's on the Cat stuck out 2" on both side's of the ramp ; it went fine loading it in daylight but when i loaded it after our first ride it was dark when i loaded it up !
This time i got a little to far to the right when i went to load it in the bed of my 87' Chevy S10 Tahoe Longbed pickup , just lucky for me the right front wheel and tire didn't come off the ramp untill i got to the top of the ramp ; in low 4x4 the right tire hit the bedrail and grabbed and clawed it's way right on up the bed rail and slide off inside the bed instead of off the side of the truck !
Had it slipped off outside the bed rail there's no telling what would've happened , needless to say i stopped using the ramp's and got a trailer to haul the Cat ; i've been thinking about getting a set of TRI - Fold loading ramp's from Northern Tool's that's 54" wide and adding the heavier chain's and S - Hook's like i did to the other ramp's !
Northern has these HighLand 54" ramp's for $169.99 , i'm going to get a set if i deside to keep my S10 pickup ; i'm having trouble from a messed up job a Mechanic freind of the family did when he replaced the transmission seal's he didn't tighten up the bolt's that hold the torqe converter to the flywheel and it's vibrating the bolt's loose and i haven't been able to drive it in over 4 month's !
I'll have to just wait and see if i can fix it myself , if not i'll just sell it and find a short bed full size truck , or pull the trailer with my 88' GMC Jimmy 4x4 MPV ; or my 89' GMC Safari Van they both have the Heavy Duty 2" frame mount Reese reciever type hitch on them !
Again i pray the guy didn't get seriously injuried when that quad came back on him like that , but the way it looked and the way his wife or whoever was doing the videoing sounded ; it did sound like he was hurt bad !.........
