Yea, I definatley do when I load into the back of the pickup, not really for
my trailer as it is a 6 1/2 wide by 14ft with a nice wide gradual load ramp.
But you/we (me) should always wear the helmet when on the quad.

After watching that video and re-watching frame by frame all the posters who made comments
about using 4x4 or brake Vs throttle, I really don't think that would of changed the outcome. When
the ramps kicked out it did in so manner of the rear wheels never made contact on the rear tailgate
and it fell back (down and at an angle) with one quick action.
I agree I do think the cooler (ironic as may be the culprit to extra rear weight) did buffer the rear half
in the tumble on him, and may have created some space buffer for the legs. But I don't know, one leg looked all
out on the side, and it looks like that took impact as well as him with that quick fall snapped his head
on the ground before EVEN the blow of the toppling of the quad - IMHO.
Scarey Scarey, yes please please, strap (harness/secure-whatever) those ramps and load/unload
in those applications with helmet.
Good thread topic Nojoke, this is what I was trying to accomplish overall is to increase awareness
for ATV Safety!
Take care, be Safe and God Bless!

I always wear my helmet when using loading ramps. The risk is just to great. Now unloading I don't even use the ramps usually, just give her a quick yank and let her land on all fours. One benefit of having a lightweight race quad

I personally never wear a helment , I see why he crashed like he did , If you look 2 feet up on from the bottom of the ramps there are these spikes that teetered the ramps (these are meant to be driven into the dirt), you can see the ramp flex and bounce from the spikes at the bottom and the cemment didnt help one bit, Im saying cheap Ramps got him hurt with a little carelessness thrown in. I think Charley needs to start wearing a Helmet cause his Wife aint gonna let em live it down.

I do even if I'm loading it on a trailer. If I'm operating the ATV I almost always put the helmet on. One of the worst wrecks I ever had on an ATV was when I was riding down the lane to get the mail. There have been several times I've just been doing a simple chore of some sort on the ATV and a helmet saved me from serious injury. Last week I was hauling some brush out to the burn pile and a tree branch that was hung way up in a tree came loose and smacked me in the head. Whole branch probably weighed a good 25 or 30 pounds. I didn't even know it was up there. If I wouldn't have been wearing a helmet It would have at least knocked me unconscious if not killed me. Hurt bad enough with the helmet on. My neck is still sore.
And speaking of helmets, my big 'ol melon is about 26 inches around and that makes finding a helmet that fits a terrible chore. A 2xl helmet is too small. it has to be a 3X or 4X. My current helmet is getting about to the end of its useful life and it's going to need to be replaced pretty soon. Anyone know a good source of helmets for people like me with big noggins?

My trailer is a tilt-bed, 4 inches high when tilted, and less than knee-high when locked in the travel position. I don't put a helmet on just to load or unload, but sometimes I load while my helmet is still on. And I've actually unloaded without tilting it, since it is so low. It's a bumpy ride but I only did it as an experiment.

I Googled 4x motorcycle helmets. Here's a size 4X but I can't imagine anyone wanting to wear it. http://www.bikersden.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=1539 I thought my 2X melon was big, but your brain must be huge.

I think ole' Charlie better start putting soda pop in the cooler instead of Beer IMO, looks like a bonehead move to me! I have always used a set pin on each of my ramps to hold them to the truck for safety purposes when alone - Its called common sense.
