Default 2008 Sportsman 800 Twin Touring Rattle sound

I have a brand new 2008 800 Twin Touring and it makes a rather strange sound. At low speed I hear a rattle, when I give it gas it goes away. Anyone have this problem as well?
I thought it was the heat plate around the exhaust that was loose but it seems to be coming from another source.
Does anyone know what this could be?

Best regards from Iceland,

Is it only when you give it gas or is it also happening while the engine is engine braking?

It might be the oil pump. I have a 2005 800, and i actually took it back to the dealer after the first day I rode it and asked them what was rattling- they started it up and told me it was the oil pump and that it was normal. Its pretty loud and it you only hear it at low RPM. It sounds like its coming from the left side of the engine. It's annoying, but its never got any louder. If that is in fact what you are hearing, I can't believe they haven't fixed it in the last 3 model years...

Thanks for this.

Yes, it makes the same noise when the engine is engine braking.
Above 5000 rpm it seems to go away.

Rather annoying from a new and expensive bike.

Regards,

More than likley as stated in other threds what you are hearing is drive line slack this is normal on Polaris's with a u-joint drive train, and it also could be the actual engine braking system that u are hearing. Is it annoying yes, but it is also one of the strongest systems avail on a quad similar to Jeep Wrangler!!!

I have a 2007 800 DLX that also makes the rattling noise coming from the LH side of the engine/transmission. I believe it has something to do with the engine breaking system. When I accelerate it doesn't do it. It only makes the noise when traveling at slower constant speeds, below 30MPH.

Mine also has a A"rattle", mine comes from the right hand side. I also thought it was the heat sheilds but they seem to be tight. I then thought maybe it was the gear selector, but I can hold some pressure on it and it doesn't go away. It almost sounds like it is coming from the engine, like possibly cylinder(combustion) noise. Similar to the "rattling" noise a diesel makes. But another possibilty is the clutch I think. It has done it from day 1 and I chalked it up to being normal, but it does get on my nerves a little.

I have a Polaris dealership here in Manitoba. I have heard this before on 800's and 500's. Could be one of two things. The exhaust pipe is rubbing on an engine bolt. To fix you have to shim the upper rear exaust mount. Or it could be the heat shield rubbing on the shifter rod in high or low range. To fix just bend the shield away.

Thanks for the tip, I'll check those things out.
