Gorilla Winches
#1
I was on ebay last week and came across a new Gorilla Winch, 2500lbs capacity w/mounting plate model specific and synthetic cable for such a good deal even cheaper then normally listed plus I had a 25.00 off coupon so I couldn't resist the temptation and bought it. Now I don't expect it to be as heavy duty as a Warn even though the usual crap was written up on how good it is and am wondering what luck any of you have had with Gorilla Winches---ANYONE got some input on them from personal usage?

first one I had i used to plow 3or 4 times and wen to use to to pull a 50-75lb limb, floatingin the creek, and it pulled about a foot and it just slipped, so we had to pull it by hand, which was done alot easier. They then sent us new gears and the next time we tried it croaked again finally they sent me a whole new on and thank gosh I havent had to us it again

I have never owned one, but I can say stay away from Venom Winches! I have a 4000 lbs and used it twice and now all it does is click when I hit the switch on the handle bars. I am thinking that the small black celoniod box is fried, but not to sure. Going to be ordering a new one and see if I can save it. ONLY 25 bucks on ebay! But not going to buy another Venom winch agian. CRAP!! MY .02 cents

That is what I was thinking and right now the winch is sitting on my Artic Cat as dead weight! lol Like to get it fixed, but I know the winch I put on my polaris is not going to be vemon. Thanks for the help, I am going to order a new contactor! Cheap way to try to fix it and won't feel bad if it does not work.

ive heard the oleder ones had issues, but the newerones are better but who knows. we tried out the one on the wifes 400 yesterday and it worked perfect(knock on wood) so hopefully it keeps on going that way. no problem w/ my 3.0 warn either lol

seems that the contactor is the weak link in these! Mine has worked great except for getting the original contactor wet, (stayed wet) and it fried, they sent me a new one no questions asked and then later they replaced it with a new waterproof 4 post unit when I called asking them if it was the same contactor, (8 post), that Warn recalled, I didn't have to ask for a replacement, they just told me right away they would send a new one!
The winch has done it's job and hasn't failed me, the service from Gorilla has been excellent!
Side note...I think the key to these winches is mounting the contactor in as dry a location as posible!
