Default Which Fairlead?

Finally got my winch, Gorilla 2500 w/synthetic rope and it just happened to come with 2 Fairleads a Aluminum Plate and a Roller and am wondering which one would be best. Seems to me the roller would but with the line being syn. I am not sure as Ive had no experience yet with the syn. lines. Both are new so burrs, pits are not a consideration now but should I worry about the roller one rusting in the future and use the alum. one? Any input from experience would be appreciated. THANKS

The aluminum is made for the synthetic rope. It will not pinch as the rollers may.

That's nice to know Reno. With steel cable I tossed the old hawse fairlead in the trash every time.

Use the aluminum one as long as there are no burrs or non-rounded edges on it. I would suggest picking up a "winch saver" or just a block of rubber for boat trailer rollers to install over your line. It will keep the bottom edge of the hook from contacting the aluminum Hawse fairlead and nicking it up.

It came with a rubber winch saver, but I did read the link on the winchsaver.com site and didn't realize that the rubber winch saver also will help stop backlash if slid down line 1/3 the way from hook when winching. Even though they say that the syn. lines don't backlash I will be using this little tip anyway. THANKS

i used that big rubber(saver) on my wifes gorilla also and figure it would help pervent her from going to far in on the winch.

for wire use a roller

for synthetic rope - you can use either as long as there are no burrs as HoneyDuck96 says above.

I have synthetic with a roller because that's what Polaris installs with thier 3500, however, given a choice I think I would use the hawse. I have concern that if I pulled at an extreme angle I could pinch the rope into the corners of the roller fairlead.
