Never heard of this problem. Is it common the the smaller 450? I've had 500s and 700s, never any sputtering problem.

We need more info. What were you doing? What had you just done? Last service? How many hours? That sort of thing.

In 2wd or 4wd normal riding everything is fine when going uphill or in mud and sand it starts missing kind of the same way they do in reverse when you dont use the over ride button

If it sputters under load and about the same rythme as the reverse rev limiter, it may be a fuel delivery problem. Fuel filter plugged, old fuel, dirty carb or float not adjusted. Possibly plugged jet.

Ride it again and when it happens, loosen off the gas filler cap and see if that helps. It it helps, it may indicate a plugged vent line, like a bug crawled in.

Could you be just over reving it?

I've never heard of a sputtering problem. I'll be watching this thread to learn more.

Substitute "Missing" for Sputtering.

Yeah, but how common is that? I've never heard one do it.
