my 400L likes fuel too. i think my problem is my riding style. when we go just trail riding not much playing it does fairly well for a 2 stroke. i like to play so the fuel takes a hit but i enjoy it at the time. i don't think about the fuel being used untill i fill it back up.then i go "where did all the gas go?". then i think about the mud holes, hill climbs and and the impromto drag races that always seam to happen. then i go " oh yea that's what happened".

LOL @ sjbr sounds alot like me.Whiskey throttle hammer down asunder is more like it.Big 2 stroke = power=lots of fuel to make all that big power= lots of enjoyment an big smiles.True look at plug like a few other gentlemen said in here.If its black fuel fouled you'll need to lean out jetting an if its almost white very lean dont even run bike till ya fix that condition an richen it up.I have a pipe, big carb clamp on kn an I usually wont run anything lower then 89.I think if ya leave compression alone 89 would be fine, people say run regular,we run that in our work trucks an omg as soon as ya step on the gas the truck is making pinging an tinking sounds.

Its probably just my riding style. I'm not worried about it I just wanted to know if it was normal. Today I tinkered with some other issues it has like the reverse light is stuck on and I tried seeing if the fan works. I unplugged the two wires from the temp switch on the radiatior and i thought that would turn the temp light on and cause the fan to run all the time but neither of those happened. Am I correct in how I tested it? Also I read that the reverse light problem is most likely the gear selector switch. Could someone tell me where thats located?

You must mean the reverse indicator on the handlebars/pod. I was thinking like a light on the back, and getting ready to tell you there isn't one, just a tail-light. I get confused when I'm sober.

Yes I was talking about the indicator light. Can anyone confirm that I tested the fan and temp. light correctly?

it turns out my sport isnt actually using all the gas. its been in my friends garage for a few days and i found a puddle of gas towards the back of the engine. I moved it and turned off the fuel and it stopped. this would indicate a carb issue right? any ideas?

It could just be a leaky hose. Have you ever checked or rebuilt the carb? I heard a float that's stuck causes problems. Not sure though.
