I am trying to install a rear rack extender on my 07 sp 450 and it requires removing the rear rack first.Several of the screws with the star fittings just turn in place but dont come out.Its hard to believe they are all stripped,is there a trick to these things or does anyone have experiance with this or suggestions thanx.

First of all, are you using the right size Torx screwdriver? If you have them unscrewed all the way they will come right out. It helps if you have a magnetic screwdriver bit. The screws are steel and stick to the magnet.

And remember - it's lefty loosey, righty tighty.

 

Yes I have the right size. the outer corners came out fine. but the inner ones close to the seat just spin loosely but dont come up.Im starting to wonder if they where torqued down to tight and have some how striped.Its hard to get a look under there but these seem to be screwed into plastic but the outer ones near the rear are screwed into a spacer of made of a different material and came right up.

Not sure what the 450 looks like, I have an 05 400.
I assume jumbofrank is on to something, mine would come off just by removing the torx screws.

 

Look to see if they are through bolted with a nut on the back side. If they are not through bolted then try lifting onthe rack as you try to un screw the screws, some times that will help for them to get the threads to bite if they are stripped.

 

Not sure if mine is same as the 450, but some had nuts and some didn't.

 

yes there is nuts on the bottoms and watch out for the spacers that will fall out when you take rack off

 

Yes the ones with spacers came off easily.Some of them are only there to hold metal plates on top of the rack Im leaving those alone.The ones that wont come out
screw into molded body color brackets(4) Ive tried lifting up hard and turning but sthey just turn,poorly amd or poorly installed not sure which.
