How do I drain my clutch housing
#1
I have a 95 Scrambler 4X4 and I have heard you can drain the belt housing if you have went through deep water. I have checked my manual and looked over the quad and do not see a drain plug. Has anyone had any experience with this. Thanks

The procedure you need to follow is in the manual. It goes something like this: if your belt is slipping, put it in neutral and rev it way up for 20-30 seconds . Let it idle down, put it in gear and try it. If it still slips, put it in neutral and rev it up again. Do that as many times as it takes to dry it out. That was the only way to do it for maybe 15-20 years until they put a drain plug in. I can't remember if it said to rev it up 30 seconds or 10 seconds, but less is probably better. The water will blow out of the outtake because the pulleys act like fans. The friction from the belt on them will heat up and evaporate the water good enough to drive. Take the cover completely off and check afterward, whether you have a drain plug or not.

Thanks I wasnt sure about the plug in mine. I read about drying it out, but was wondering about the drain plug. Does anyone know if you can add a plug since its plastic, or would that just add problems. I went through a huge 2 1/2 ft deep puddle about 30mph and it sucked in some water and the belt slipped after I parked it. Thanks for the help.

Read Jokout's posts about the piece of foam, in this thread. It sounds like a good idea. http://forums.atvconnection.co...y&keyword1=belt%20slip

not sure if you could add a plug. if it don't happen that often i would'nt worry to much about it. you could add short snorkles to it. keep it hidden under the body but higher than the stock locations

there isnt any plug on the older bikes but i know where ive read people have added one and i did it on one of the bikes w/ an old battery screw plug. if its sealed correctly and you didnt go real high in water it shouldnt be getting in the housing. imo.

I have never had a problem until I hit the deep water this time. The water flew about 20ft in the air so there would bo no snorkel tall enough to get completly out out the water. I am going to check on raising the snorkel though. On the 95 its unprotected below the gas tank, and that is pretty low. I would like to get it up to the same level as the intake. That would give you a good 8in plus keep it out of the open.

Just an idear but couldnt you get some material they make the outerwears from for the air filters and put over the intakes of the snorkels. It wouldnt be waterproof but arent they water resistant? It might help for when your just splashing water up aroung the intake
