temp gauge
#1
First off, I have a 1999 Polaris Sport 400L. I unplugged the sensor at the top of the radiator to see if the fan turned on and the hot light lit up. Please correct me if thats the wrong way of checking that. The fan didnt turn on the light didnt light up so I have come to the conclusion that I need to at least get a temp gauge. I've been reading other posts about installing temperature gauges and have read its better to put them directly on the head but I couldn't find the hot light sensor thats supposed to be on the side of the head. Can anyone give me a good description of where to find it? Also, the mechanical gauges seem to have a long sending you and wasn't sure if that would cause a problem. Thanks for any help

I bought a temp gauge at autozone for $16. They is the hot light sensor on the top of the head. If you remove this there is an adapter in the kit for the temp sensor and it screws right in. I installed mine last weekend and it works great I was having the same problem as you and yes mine was running hot and I didn't even know it so I had to fix the fan.
