i would start by removing the carb and completely cleaning it along with draining the old gas.

Agreed. The old gas probably turned into varnish in the carb. It needs a good cleaning and rebuild. Drain the gas tank.

Do as said earlier but also pull the exhaust pipe and drain any gas out of it.

Always try a new spark plug, especially with 2 strokes.

Always set the gap on your new plugs. There's no such thing as a "pre-gapped" plug but some people don't check.

Replace needle and seat, cleaning doesnt always help, gas has leaked into crank past crank seal if rope is wet. Bottom of engine is 10mm slotted drain bolt to drain crankcase, then do as posted above plus premix first tank 50-1 to keep from washing down piston from excess gas! Hopefully seals won't distort and leak air (erratic idle,or idles down and dies. Good luck!

chances are like old pol. said the needle and seat should be replaced. im working on a sled right now that hasnt run in 5 yrs and what a night mare as the gas poured out brown sludge. make sure that the killerand key switch are working if theres no spark as well.
