Getting rid of my 99 trailboss 250
#1
So i have had this 4 wheeler since i was 14 and its time to upgrade. It hasnt been running for over a year so i have been riding my buddies dirt bikes/faster quads and have pretty much decided i want to get a brand new outlaw.
Last time the trailboss was used my brother said he turned it off and it wouldnt start again. So i looked at everything. It has fuel, spark, and air. Pretty sure the starter is bad but i cant even pull start it. I did notice when i pulled the spark plug there were alot of metal deposits on it so that leads me to beleive the piston is screwed. Other than that the trailboss is in great shape. New tires, shocks, battery, etc. You cant even tell its that old since its been stored in a garage most its life. The carb was also rebuilt about 2 months before it stopped running.
So should i:
A. Fix it and try to sell it for $1,000 to $1,500.
B. Not fix it and sell it for $?????
C. Try to trade it in when i go for the polaris outlaw.
D. Part that **** out.
What would you guys do? Im not even sure what the value would be for this thing. I might end up fixing it and keepin it just to have something for friends to ride.

I would try and see what you would get for it first(fixed up) BEFORE you put any money into it...
Check ads,paper,etc... .. in your area....
This way you know how much you will be getting for the Quad.

First thing I'd check would be the compression. Would bet that it's due for a top end rebuild at the least.

Only if you do the work and not the dealer, but will be lucky to get what you put into it. See a lot of these, just have to decide whether to unload as is or repair. If can get decent price AS IS,might be better to walk away from.Sometimes like ex-wives and ex-girl friends, REMEMBER the GOOD times and dont look back, just move on! Good luck whatever course you take!

I agree! If you're not going to do the work yourself, turn it loose! I bought my 97 TrailBoss for $150 as a project. I knew it had a tranny problem. By the time I bought the necessary parts for the tranny, new o-ring chain, rear shock and fixed a few other items, I had spent $500. If I had taken this to the shop for these repairs, I would have been upside down in a BIG way! But, since I did it myself (with a lot of help from this forum), I have an excellent running atv for my son and don't have that much in it.
