Seems in the 17 hours of riding, the 300 has heat issues. Riding in the snow last week, we stopped at the top of the hill, and took a 5min break. went to start the 300 up and it ran for 1 min then died. would crank but not start, seem to loose spark. after about 15 mins of checking it out I started to prep it for a tow back, once on the tow strap right before we started back, the wife cranks it and it starts up. About 45 min sitting. we rode it the rest of the day. 2 more hours.

I guess polaris makes an external oil cooler for the 300's/Hawkeyes looks like 239.00 at the local dealers, I am going to order one hope it fixes this issue. We ride slow,10-15MPH is are average riding speed. Plus the snow adds to the workload.

He had them on the 300 first. Where do you have snow in June? I thought I lived in an area with long winters. I don't think its a heat issue. The one we had rode all summer, up sand hills, slow speeds, 80's and 90's outside, no problems. Maybe your fuel tank vent tube was pinched. Slow speeds on snow should not have caused a heat related issue, IMO.

What makes you think it's heat related? What exaclty was it doing when it died? Idleing, climbing a hill ect? Did it sputter first then die or just die all of a sudden? What did you do while "checking it out"?
I, like sheepdog, doubt it is heat related.

It died after we sat for 5 mins after a long hill climb. Then took 45 mins to restart, only guess I had was heat cause of the time frame.

What had you checked before it restarted. Just wondering if you accidently corrected the problem. ie a loose electrical connection or something. Also had it been moved between the time it wouldn't start and when it did? Sometimes it is the simple stuff that will get you. I accidently bumped my kill switch(the one on the left handlebar) one time without realizing it, obvioulsy the atv died. Should have seem me trying to figure out what the hell happened lol. Took me about 5 minutes to figure it out. Not saying that is your problem, just reminded me of the story.

did you loosen the fuel cap to make sure it was under pressure from no venting? just a thought.

Good point. I have a buddy who has a motorcycle that does that. Tank ends up under vacuum and starving for fuel. Until he figured out the problem it would fix it self with time sitting, as the vacuum leaked. Easy to test. If it does it again crack the gas cap, then try to start it.

I took the side panel off nd looked for any loose connections, or major leaks. I did not remover the gas cap, I will check that next time. This past saterday we road for about 4 hours on a snowy road, after a short sit it started and sputtered for a few mins then cleared up, Could be vapor locking from the heat build after a sit I guess.
