Default Bummer in the summer

Well I took the wheelers up to Maine for the long weekend, while unloading the hawkeye I heard and felt a banging noise from the rearend. So I take a look and the left (brake side) inner cv was in weird position, no grease leaking,no torn boot, but you could tell it was separated. So I took it apart and the bearing cage was in pieces. Of course this was the forth of July so nothing is open, tried the next day and the only place open couldn't help. needless to say we didn't do much long distance riding on the 500 after that. my 10 year old grandson just got his permit to ride the trails and I was looking forward to taking him out,but he got to drive the 500 and he didn't mind that too much. ....so Would anybody know where I could get a rebuild or complete cv shaft for a decent price? Polaris wants 218.bucks for a complete unit and shows no joint rebuild. thank you DJB

Complete drive shaft only offered from Polaris! Dont know about other sources! I have had about 5 Hawkeyes do the same thing ,but no bulletins from Polaris yet! I'm sure this will be addressed! If one more comes in I'm calling my Tech line to find out WHY and if I'm missing a bulletin! Good luck.

yes from what I've read from others it's that side that goes. I'm wondering if the brake has something to do with it...........thanks for the reply.

Hey Guys, please check my post in "Weird Clicking Noise" and see if you heard anything like this. The click I get is usually a single fairly sharp "snap", but nothing like a continual growl or banging.

Bummer about blowing something on an important holiday and family time.

Cheap cycle parts.com has the complete shaft for $172 at the below link...
You may try searching a bit to see if you could pick up a slightly better price...sorry that this weekend was a bust for you and the family!

Check -- American CV, same day shipping and they claim to beat any competitors price and all complete heavy duty axles come with 1 year warranty the only thing not covered is boots. A friend just got a rear one for his sportsman and I think it was 150-175. or there abouts.

sounds like my weekend...went to ride and found a rear inner cv boot busted. I got it tore apart and was showing a friend what I was doing and noticed the other inner cv boot had a hole...and another missing the clamp. did some searches and found where folks were saying the stock gaurds were rubbing on the boots causing them to bust.
