just curious to see how often most folks change their oil?
i just changed the 08 500 st 23 hours and plan on changing my 08 800 at 20 hrs...
Then I'll probably change maybe every 50 hrs.....

Good choice of intervals! manual says 100 hrs or 6 months. JMO 100 hrs too long! I reset customers machines for 50 hrs after service for wrench to flash and let them decide! Good luck

Let me start off...I AM **** about my oil changes. If I'm just putting around the neighborhood, or playing in the fields close by I will go maybe 2-3 months. If I have gone out to an offroad park and rode hard all day, I will change it after every ride. IMO between the high rpm's, and heat that's alot to ask of 2 quarts of oil. BTW I use Mobil 1 15w/50.
I've owned my Hawkeye for 1.5 years now and it has about 50 hours on it and approx. 450 miles. It has had the oil changed 5-6 times. I guarantee the inside of my engine is as clean as the day I bought it. Heck I've changed the front diff and transmission lube twice already.

what are the different oil weights that you can use....
I bought my oil/filter in a kit from the dealer....
I'd much rather use mobil 1... DID you get it at a auto parts store?

I do mine every 50 hours at the most. They are ridden hard and deserve the more frequent oil changes than the manual suggests. You certainly cant go wrong with more frequency!

I hate to open this can of worms again but, Polaris recommends 0w/50 for the Hawkeye. I'm not a big fan of 0w oil. IMO, too thin for an air cooled engine, especially in the summer heat. I would either use the 0w/50, or the Mobil 1 15w/50. And yes Mobil 1 can be bought at any auto parts store, I happen to get mine at AutoZone.
I would go with a K&N oil filter too.

I saw tha polaris recomended 0w-50 for the 300 and the 800. i just purchased the oil kits from the dealer. I use Delo 5W-40 synthetic in the rover and would like to use it in the polaris's too. But since the rides are new I will stick to oil change kits, to insure not to have any warranty issues.

Usually in the fall before hunting season and then again in the spring usually before turkey season. Despite all the miles I put on it the oil looks about the same as it does when I put it in. I could probably get away with once a year but I don't feel comfortable doing that.

I do mine every 10 hrs. So if I ride for a weekend, it gets changed when I get home. I change the filters every other oil change. If I drag race alot, I change it after every day. Ive had my quad for 1 year yesterday and have done about 10 oil changes.
I use Rotella 5w-40 full synthetic. My oil still looks golden brown when I change it, which is how it should be, no chance for something bad to even come close to happening.
