Default X2 Questions

I have a few questions for x2 or Touring owners. I just spent the day looking at a few Polaris Dealer looking at 2-up ATV. I was looking mainly at the sportsman 500 x2, I road all X2s and Touring. I liked the 500 but the 700 X2 caught my eye and I liked the pick up of the 700. I know that the rear seat differnce between the 2 (X2 and Touring). One dealer said he heard that Polaris was doing away with the 700, Has anyone heard this? There is only a $200.00 difference between the 500 and the 700. Does anyone who has the 500 wish they got the 700 and why? Does anyone who has the 700 wish they got the 500 and why. My plans are to get one next week but I want to know the pros and cons of both. Thanks for all the information that you can give me.

I have the 700 x2. I love the power over the 500, but there is a price to pay....fuel consumption! The 500 gets far better fuel mileage than the 700. I know this sounds weird with atv's, but depending on the distances you tend to ride, this could be a deal breaker. We are talking several mpg! If you tend to go long distance rides, then go for the 500. It will do everything you want, I am sure, just might have to work harder than the 700. But, if you prefer short distance rides and having the torque and power, like me, then the 700 is the way to go. IMO.

Have you heard about them doinf away with the 700. I'm not sue about my grizzly but I would think the 700 gets about the same as my grizzly and that is not much. 45 to 50 miles a tank

Well, so much depends on how you ride it. WOT vs. puttn along. The 700 does have a larger fuel tank. I get about 55 - 60 miles per tank on my 800. The 700 should be about 75 miles per tank. That's longer than I like to ride. By then Im frikn drunk! LOL!

I debated the same thing. I was mainly leaning towards the 500 X2 but was unsure because I did not want an under powered machine. I ended up test driving the 500 and was impressed with the power it had.

I'll mainly be trail riding and hunting with my machine. The trails around here are not so good as to ride over about 30-35 mph, and that is on the really good stretches. Even on pavement, I rarely go over 40, which the 500 handles very well. I have not topped out the machine as 40 is fast enough.

I get 22 MPG or so on my 500 and with the 6 gal tank, can go 100 miles no problem before I'm thinking of re-fueling. I do not regret getting the 500 instead of the 700.

I ride most of trail riding in winter with my wife. I got a X2 500 2007 and NEVER REGRET MY CHOICE.....For sure you don't have the power of the 700 but you got plenty of power. If you REALLY want more ZIP ON the trottle and NEVER MIND the gaz price GO FOR THE 700 for the couples undred dollars more....

Polaris didn't have a touring model or a 700 X2 when I bought my 500 X2. I rode the 800 X2 and found it a little much for what I wanted in both price and performance. I routinely tow a 5x8 trailer loaded with brush or firewood. The 500 does a great job. Not really made for trail riding, more for working/hauling. If you want the ridability, you might want to seriously consider the touring models. I love mine, though. Zero complaints. The only problem has been a broken battery strap that allowed the exhaust pipe to melt a hole in the battery casing. Dealer fixed under warranty, but took 8 working days.

Thanks, I'm just stuck on witch size to get. I like the X2. I started out riding ATV year ago with a Yamaha 450 then a 2003 grizzly that I love but at times the power is to much. So that is why I was looking at the 500 but parts of me likes the zip of the 700. It is not that I run 50mph I just want to know that the power is there if I need it and I know that the power of the Yamaha 450 was somewhat lacking. So no problems in the mud, hills, hauling, or zip department when it comes to a 500.

When I bought mine...I did some test on the Polaris DEMO tour....Zip the trottle for comparing a X2 500 to a 700.....I was felt in love with the 700....but after thinking what I was doing the MOST..... I choose the 500 for my need.......I work, hauling some trailer, wood, rock, sable, plowing in winter....without any problem. I trail riding on summer but not a lot. I ride on my land at slow speed, rock crawling, tight trail, and the X2 is a pleasure to ride....

I LOVE MY X2
