hawkeye problems...
#1
been having the problem about backfiring and lots of stuff for about 2 months now, taken it to the dealer, etc... and i decided to check the fuel in the gas tank and lines and took off the line that is between the fuel valve and the fuel pump so i can open the valve and i have a hose that runs the fuel into a bucket to drain it. but whenever i open the valve all the way, the fuel just barely comes out, it is like a really fast drip. is the valve supposed to do this, or is it clogged or something? the tank is about 1/4 full.
and i never got to drain it all the way cuz i needed to use it for the day.

Backfiring is more often than not caused by a "lean" mixture. When you have the hose off and the valve open, take the fuel filler cap off and see what happens. If the fuel flow into the bucket is better, chances are that the vent line may be the problem.

nah, trust me, me, ive taken it to the dealer twice already and he says he doesnt know what to do with it. it is not running lean, the backfiring and running lean is more like a symptom. he took the carb apart and drilled something so it allows more fuel flow to fix it and increase performance, and no difference. ive also tried current K&N and stock filter, replaced spark plug, and checked the fuel lines.
and the first thing i did when i saw it drip was take off the fuel tank cap, and no difference. and i even tried to blow into the gas tank cap hole to push fuel through and pressure just built up and blew out and no noticeable differences.
and also, as long as i keep it cruising at 25-30 mph or less on road, its fine. its when i race the engine or if im in sand or up a hill and i increase the throttle is when it gets symptoms(backfiring, only runs with choke all the way out, eventually wont run at all and i have to let it sit and try to start it without choke and wont start and then with choke it will start and then repeats).
i just wanna know if it is supposed to drip slowly like that or if my problem is elsewhere. but once i get at the house tomorrow i will drain all the fuel and check the fuel valve.
and awhile back when the problems started, we had a long thread all about this.

Old POlaris Tech may be on to something. A faulty valve would allow enugh fuel through (maybe) to idle and mid range but limit full throttle. Then it would lean out and backfire.
On the plug thing, can you post a pic?
