chain tightening

how do i tighten the chain? noticed it has been sagging a lil bit lately and last night tries to come off on me. i dont beleive it needs a link taking off cause it was fine until the last ride. any help would be great

If its 2 wheel drive, loosen the two bolts that hold the rear axle then roll the eccentric forward . You need to bottom the suspention out with a ratchet strap first then tighten the chain pretty tight then let the suspention go and it should be fine. There is a hole in the sprocket that you can insert a punch into the eccentric and turn the rear wheels or a large pair of chanell locks will turn it.

Dont take links out of chain,Not trying to hijack post but if LATER model machine (98 or later,collapsing rear suspension not necessary as swing arm design change that allows tighter chain adjustment even though owners manuals may still say to collapse rear suspension! Tighten to where you have about 3/8" clearance at center of chain. If chain has side play movement or kinks,Replace. Most of my case damage machines have come from too loose chains that jump off and crack cases at front sprocket area. Some machines will have chain clearance adjustment sticker on swing arm.
