Welcome to the forum Steve. I think you'll be happy with a Polaris as your first ATV. I was and never bought anything else since. If it revved up a lot when you were going slow it must have been in low range. I don't have an X2 but the only difference there is that I know of is the ADC.
NADA list is $7,899.00 new for the '07, and $7,999.00 for the '08. Only $100 more. Used they would be $6,040, and $6,595, respectively, on average. $555 difference. If the '07 is used and the '08 is new it's a $1,304 difference, but that's only an average, as used values vary.

Yes I am a bit new to ATVs ( normaly ride 2 wheels)
99% sure I had it in H..
I did drive my mates honda 500FA after the Polaris as I wanted to check that it wasn't just an ATV thing, and it was a bit revie but not like the Polaris...
And sorry, I'm talking Australian dollars, and we get ripped off compared to what u guys pay in the states.. just as an example...
Remember the AUD is almost 1-1 with the USD..
the 07 500 x2 the deal was $10,800AUD including gun rack, tow hitch, handguards, bull bar. (not yet 1 hour on clock)
the O8 was $1500 more..
The 700 takes it up to almost $15,000.

Crikey!!! That's a lot of money for the 700. Canadian dollars are about 1 to 1 too and they get raped on ATV prices. The worst prices I've heard of yet was a guy on the forum from Ukraine. I think he said the prices were almost twice as high as in Australia.
I think I'd get the '07 and save the other $1,500 for gas. What's petrol going for in Oz? It's about $3.80/gallon or $1/liter here, and probably $4-5/gallon on the left coast.

Just looking a buying my first ATV and narrowed it down to a few final models, the
07 Polaris X2 500 (less than 1 hour on clock and $1500 less than 08)
08 Polaris X2 500
I had a few questions that the guys in the shop couldn't answer....
I took the 08 500 for a short drive and it seemed to rev quite hard at low speed.. Admittedly I did not get to spend as much time testing as I would have liked to... Is that normal for Polaris ATVs?
What is the difference between the 07 and 08 model?
How dose the 4x4 work on the Polaris? I have heard that when going down a steep hill and you take your hand of the throttle it goes back to 2wd?
what speeds can you get upto on the 500's?
Any other atv's I should look at.? Should I look at the 700 as well?
The Can am's don't have a good name here, as they don't seem to last very long.
Thanks!</end quote></div>
If the 07 is a deluxe with alum rims, winch, ADC,
and work lights, and other goodies I'd get it!
If its the standard model I'd get the 08 500, ADC and aluminum rims and new warranty are well
worth the $1500 differance, better yet the 700 for a couple $$$ more.
The X2 are heavy and you''ll be lucky to get much over 55 mph.
Nothing wrong with CanAm, same company as SkiDoo and SeaDoo, Rotax engines are very dependable.

I find the local dealers around here are having a tuff time selling Can Ams to second time buyers! Had a conversation with one Can AM/ Polaris/ Kawasaki dealer near me that stated Can Am kicked both Polaris/ Kawasaki butts for the first couple years we carried them, but now he has a ton of used Can Ams that were traded in for Polaris and Kawasaki models and he's having a hard time selling new models to anyone that has owned them before...he did say first time sales are still pretty good...this seems to be a common trend in this area...
Another interesting comment I got from another dealer was just after the 09 release from Can Am...he said, "all we need, more HP and plastic skid plates, what we really need is a frame upgrade!"

Hey Steve, if, as others have said, the 07 has ADC I would get it. I have an 06 500 EFI with just the rear wheel EBS. It's better than no engine braking but not as good as ADC as others have said. I used to have an Xplorer with no EBS at all. Now, that was an exciting downhill ride. The X2 is, in my mind, the most versatile ATV ever made. Hope you enjoy whichever one you decide to buy as much as I have enjoyed mine.

I just want to let you know that the 07s do not have ADC marked on the handle bar switch like the 08s do.
There were 2 models offered in 07, the standard and deluxe.
The deluxe had alum rims, winch, ADC and rear work lights added to the standard model.
The 07 would be the better deal if its the deluxe, if not get the new 1.
good luck
Rick

Well it does pay to ring around!! I decided on the 08 500 x2 and ended up only paying about $500 extra! Well worth that I thought..
Very happy and can't wait to get it on Sat. Then the real questions will start... :-)
Thanks for all the advise and comments!
