Default Tire repair

Hi all,

I have 2002 SP 500 HO. This morning my rear right tire was low on air. I filled it back up so I could find the leak. Sure enough I have small puncture. Pulled the wheel off and brought it down to a tire company for repair. The man tried to put in a plug with no success. Since the tire is tubeless he said he is not able to repair the leak and I need a new tire.

Now my questions 1) can it be repaired? 2) If it can't be repaired do I need to get 4 new tires since this machine is often used in AWD? I'm not sure if the AWD system will be damaged if I have different size tread.

you need to go where they can pull the tire off the rim+ patch it,if its a 2ply they can be hard to plug.patches work good as long as it is'nt on the sidewall......

Where is the leak? I have fixed some pretty good sized holes with the tire plugs that look like a wick with some goo on them.

The puncture is not in the sidewall. It is between the tread. I went to a professional reputable tire store for repair. Do I need to go to a tire company that specializes in ATV tire repair? The company I went to does car tires not ATV tires but was willing to give it shot. I can't imagine the tires are that different to repair. They tried 3 plugs with no luck.

Use a patch plug, has a metal covered rubber pointed end and other end conventional patch, just enlarge hole a little, roughen up inside at puncture area, glue, insert plug stem and pull up to put pressure on patch, roll bubbles out of patch. Holds better than a plug or separate patch. Available most atv shops and tire shops.

I did what Off-Road Master said and fixed it on the wheel for chump-change. No taking it anywhere, dis-mounting and remounting tire on wheel, or paying anyone, and the repairs last. I did it in between the tread of a mud tire and on the sidewall of a pxt radial. The repair kits are $7-10 at auto or hardware stores, and if you ever need extra plugs they're $5 for 10.

Usually the rosin plugs will outlast the tire and if that don't work why not find a tube and put it in? Putting a tube in a tubeless tire has been being done for years with no adverse affects.

running differnt size treads highths wouldnt hurt, but just get it fixed as we have said we've all fixed many tires by plugging them and putting slime in the tire works as well.
