05' 700 efi - changed belt now shifts hard????
I recently changed my belt on my 2005 700 efi sportsman. It now shifts really hard. When it is in low the machine goes on its own (in idle). I was wondering if I need to adjust the clutch and how to do this. I've got the machine tore apart right now because I needed to fix an exhaust leek. Thank you in advance for any help... Jeff

Check for belt riding on front clutch sheath and up off one way clutch, good sign that clutches out of alignment, check front motor mount for damage or moving, 10" center to center on clutches. If dont have alignment tool, can add, subtract shims behind rear clutch to position belt better on front clutch. Also wear on one way clutch washer and or fiber washer at back of one way clutch. TOO much slack on one way clutch or not enough. Should be able to insert .020 feeler guage at back of one way, with slight drag. If lot of slack may have to replace washers. Hard shifting usually because of belt turning driven clutch at idle. Good luck
