you would be better off getting a smaller, lower to the ground atv.even if you slow it down it tips easy.

Yeah those 400's are Beasts that need to be tamed by an experienced rider,
I would get a small 4 banger from him to ride around on

Governing the speed is one thing....most have throttle stops built into the thumb box.........

but depending on how light your son is he will never be able to handle the weight of those pigs....... my father has owned two and his riding buddy still has a 400..... they weigh a ton and my guess is your son will be too small to even slightly influence the machine..... and that is just as important as the speed - perhaps more important......

I dont know if there is such a thing made,
but I bet you could mock somthing up that only lets the throttle go so far

Don't those things have a throttle stop? I never looked on one but I just assumed mostly all ATVs had them...... all the ones I've ever owned have had them. It is just a little screw in the throttle box.... if there is not one there I'm sure you can drill a hole and add one yourself without much trouble at all....... the screw just limits how far the thumb throttle can be pushed.......

Growing up we had 3 wheelers, my dad would U bolt a small block of wood to the grip. It worked...till my older brother go the idea to remove it so he could jump it further. The plan was to reinstall it before dad got home.(we weren't supposed to be on it without him around)

Dad came home early that day, got a full view of my bro in mid air, WOT, doing a cool trick(one handed)!

He came up with every excuse..it fell off...I don't know what happened to it...I forgot I wasn't supposed to ride it...LMAO

Then dad saw the cresant wrench, U bolt, block of wood and the nuts on the garage floor! Then he saw the snow sled with the rope tied to it in the field along with all my hockey gear which was used as crash/injury prevention...We got the belt! Ouch it hurt at the time, looking back...pretty funny. We didn't get the belt very often..when we did...we deserved it! LOL

The above was all my bro's idea!!
