I am in the process of replacing the chains in my sportsman 500 trany. I have the trany out of the bike, but am have a problem getting the hub (the hub with the Rubber boots) that attaches the trany and A arm shaft out.
Does anyone know if this just comes out by hammer with a little force or unscrews? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If your talking about drive shafts, they just pull out, sometimes have to jerk hard while some one hold trans. Usually very durable transmission!

The piece that I am referring to I believe is This one.. Part Number 8. It is connected to the Transmission. In order to split the casing I need to get this off.

Thanks

Yes this what I was referring to,MUST be pulled hard to get plunging joint out of gearcase! Part # 9,the circlip is what retains shaft in trans case, sometimes if rusty or never been pulled, have to use penetrant, heat and STILL get mad and JERK HARD! Good luck

JUST use penetrating oil and heat, may have to do several times,if have access to slide hammer can help persuade. I use prybars myself at times along with a SECOND person. Frustrating at times BUT eventually will come out! Good luck

OPT,

Thanks, that did the trick. got er all apart now, had to replace the Small chain in the front of the Trans, as it was stretched a little, causing the 4 wheeler to Jerk when you are going slow. Probably would have lasted another 4k miles, But was afraid that I would get caught out in the woods and it would snap. Also changing a couple Bearings while I am in the as they sounded like they need replacing. Anything else you would recommend while I have it open? All the gears look good.

Thanks

I WOULD replace both chains! That is if there is slack on the other one. DOUBLE check for ANY wear marks on shift forks or sliding gears,ESPECIALLY forward/reverse shift fork, this is the main one that wears, not low range. Good luck
