Default Winch Question

I just got a brand new 08 800, and the Polaris winch. I installed the winch, unspooled it and then wound it back up under the weight of the machine. A few days later I went to drag out an old front mount tractor snow blower. I hit the in side of the switch and all I got was clicking at the contactor. So now I am pissed, I have 20' of line out and I can't spool it back up. I coil it back up and start riding to the garage, at the same time working the switch. Suddenly it starts working, so I go back to the shed and hook it back up and again nothing just clicking. Could it be that there is not enough juice to work the winch while idling? I gave it some throttle and was able to drag out the blower. Any ideas?

I had the same exact problem with my two month old Venom. If I played with the switch it would finally pull in. They shipped me a new contactor and all is good. But first I would check all connections.

Default Winch Question

the conctactors that come with the Polaris winch is not very reliable. When I bought my 800 they installed me a a warn winch but put in a polaris contactor. It did not last one month. I had them to replace it with an original warn and no problem since.

It I were you, I would even pay the difference in cost to have a warn contactor installed instead of the Polaris. Both are almost identical except that the Polaris one is an offshore copy of the warn.

Default Winch Question

I tried it again tonight and had the same problem. I grabbed my DVOM and check the battery voltage when I hit the switch to see if how the voltage dropped. It only dropped a few tenths of a volt but while checking the voltage I found my problem. Polaris gives you a longer bolt to connect the wires to the battery, well the bolt is to long so the connection was bad. I could freely move the positive wires around. I put in some washers and all is good. I am going to dig out the original bolt and put that back in.

Mikka you would'nt have a part number or give me a link to the Warn contactor would you?

Thanks to everyone.

Man I didn't realize that was gonna be the solution. I had just put mine in a couple weeks ago. And when I went to put the longer bolt in I could see the terminal starting to flex on one side as soft as it is. So i just used the original bolt too. Good to hear you on top of everything and found it yourself.
