Adding a winch
#11
And while the bickering about a snow thrower and possible damage caused by plowing is entertaining in it's own childish way, it doesn't really address the question at hand. I just installed an aftermarket winch on my Xplorer 250 and in the winch instructions it said the engine needed to be running when using the winch and all connections needed to be tight and waterproof to avoid draining down the battery.

Just like I said in my first post. And the OP was about plowing too. I believe the questions at hand have been addressed.

the biggest issues w/ batteries running down from winch useage is from over using the winch while the bike isnt running that long allowing the battery to be fully charged up. the atv charging system isnt very stong to keep maintaining the constant draw from alot of use of the winch which will evently kill the battery. imo.

& on newer machines they have higher rated charging systems. Winches are probably the most common addition nowdays & the maufacturers have beefed up their machines accordingly. If you use it ALOT at idle or worse with engine off you will most likely drain it. Under normal conditions they will be fine.
Ya know how to make a dishwasher into a snow thrower????
Give her a shovel & shove her out the door.
Couldn't help it.

Man, Upnort, you're asking for it. <div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Give her a shovel & shove her out the door.</end quote></div> I hope your wife or significant other doesn't find that one. If you don't want to drain your battery when winching make sure it is running and even give it a little gas. Worked for me when pulling others out of stucks and when I had to pull my quad upright after laying it on its side. Shouldn't be a problem. If you do end up getting a winch and putting it on yourself, take off any jewelry on your hands. I fried my finger when my wedding ring hit the positive terminal and the engine block at the same time. I lost about an 1/8th inch of skin.

Well some get no snow..........Some others get a little bit............I live in the snow-belt here in Ontario Canada ............And needed to shovel my roof (house)off 4 times last year ....Each time the snow was up to my knees...........So people around here usually need tractors or pick-up to plow snow.........Some do use ATV's but as I here from the guys at work they need to start the plowing very wide at first due to the fact they runn out of room before the end of the winter.........
I just wanted to post and let everyone know that winter is very different depending where you live...................So we can't really sit here and talk about everyone's situation.....Thanks.......Caper.....
