I have a 2008 X2 500, it has 30 hours on it and needs the 25 hr service. The service manager told me that it will cost about $180 to do the 25 hour service. That sounds steep. Is that an OK price for the service? What does the service entail and does it need everything that the service book asks for.

Also, as soon as it turned over on the 25 hr, I started having stalling issues. It will stall (at idle) alot when it is cold, and will stall (at idle) even on the trails. Any idea?

The stalling may be the throttle safety device. It's designed to keep the bike from running away if the throttle cable gets hung. There is an adjustment on the cable near the throttle,it's covered by a rubber boot. Pull the rubber down and you'll see it, it'll have a threaded area with a locknut. The little locknut sometimes viberates loose causing the cable to get out of adjustment in turn messing up the throttle safety device.
Once you found the adjustment on the cable you can pop the little lid off of the top of the throttle housing. There will be a small set of contacts inside, thats the safety. With the throttle at rest there should be a SMALL gap between the contacts.Now...if there is no gap you can turn the adjustment on the throttle cable a few turns until you see a gap,it don't take much! Once you have alittle gap you can start the machine and it should now idle. Once you know it's going to idle ok then you'll want to make sure the locknut is locked back down good.
This may not be your problem but I'm guessing it is. This is an easy fix that only takes a minute.
Now as far as 180 bucks for your first service, I think thats high but it's also about what my dealer quoted me. From what I was told they only change the oil and CHECK the rest of your fluids on a 25hr service.
I don't let the dealer touch mine, IMO the maintenance on these machines is not hard to do and will save you tons of money. Buy a good service manual, follow it closely, and you'll be good to go! There are alot of good guys here with tons of knowledge so if you run into a snag someone can put you back on track.
Hope this helps, welcome to the forum!

Good call gentlemen!!!! I adjusted the thingamagig for the throttle cable and it instantly fixed the stalling issue!!! Thanks a million!!!

Now, for the maintenence. I have a buddy that can help me with my first oil change ... How important is the other things such the following 25 hour/1 year changes?

1) rear gearcase oil (if it is equiped)
2) transmission oil
3) demand drive fluid

If I can keep this to an oil change I can DIY, the other issues scare me

Just read my manual and it says anually on the other fluids.
Every two years on ADC and brake fluid.
Like I said in my first post buy a service manual it'll tell you EVERYTHING you need to know,it's what the techs use. None of the service is too hard IMO. I haven't done all of my fluids yet but I've already scoped it all out comparing machine to pictures in the manual, looks pretty straight forward. Don't be skeered juss do iiiiit!
